GOLD Coast fashionistas will be able to satisfy their hunger for unique designer fashion items without the designer price tag. The Academy of Design is launching the Coast's first retail store to stock past and present students' work.

Academy director Rycki Symons said the store, Designer Emporium, in Robina, would launch the careers of many up-and-coming Coast designers."There will be 15 designers stocking their designs in store," he said."People can come in, meet with a designer and get a piece custom-made."The fashion in store will range from racewear through to bridal and swimwear."

Local designer Joanne Burger said the retail store would generate a new breed of fashionista on the Coast. She said people did not want the saturation fashion found in every store. "This is a great launching pad for so many designers," she said."Being able to showcase our work to the general public takes the edge off fashion graduates who are trying to make a name for themselves in the industry."We will be providing innovative and unique items. There will be something for everyone."Ms Burger said the store would provide pieces from the crazy to couture.Local designer Alana Scott said she would sell her garments for as little as $75."Designers would die for an opportunity like this," she said.

Designer Emporium will be launched on August 6 at 76 Robina Town Centre Drive, Robina
